Should Alberta Allow Online Gambling? Help Shape the Rules
Official title: iGaming Strategy engagement
Alberta is developing rules for legal online gambling (iGaming). The government wants input on consumer protections, responsible gambling standards, and how existing casinos and First Nations can participate. This is Phase 2 of their strategy, building on conversations that started in 2024.
Why This Matters
Ever gambled online? Right now, Albertans use unregulated offshore sites with no consumer protections. Legal iGaming could mean safer platforms, but also easier access to gambling. If you've seen gambling harm families, or think adults should have regulated options, this is your chance to weigh in.
What Could Change
Alberta could license online casinos and sports betting platforms to operate legally in the province. New regulations would set rules for advertising, deposit limits, and self-exclusion programs. First Nations and existing casino operators may get priority access to the online market.
