Bleams Road Reconstruction - Kitchener

Official title: Bleams Road

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
The Region of Waterloo has completed a major reconstruction of Bleams Road between Trussler Road and Fischer-Hallman Road in Kitchener. The project replaced the entire road structure, installed a new watermain, added multi-use pathways on both sides, and built four new roundabouts. Construction wrapped up in December 2025.

Why This Matters

Live on or near Bleams Road? This project changed how you get around. Four new roundabouts replaced old intersections. New multi-use pathways make walking and cycling safer. The road itself is completely rebuilt.

What Could Change

This project is now complete. The road has been fully reconstructed with new asphalt, a new watermain, multi-use pathways on both sides, and four roundabouts at Trussler Road, Isaiah Drive, Donnenwerth Drive, and Commonwealth Street/Abram Clemens Street.

Key Issues

  • Which intersection design was best: roundabouts, signals, or a hybrid approach?
  • How should multi-use pathways be designed for cyclists and pedestrians?

What Happened

The project is now complete. A Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study was completed in June 2023, and the recommended alternative (four roundabouts with multi-use pathways) was approved by Planning and Works Committee on December 6, 2023. Construction was completed in December 2025.
