Steel Pile Installation at Ruskin Construction Facility - Delta River Road

Official title: Pile installation

Closed Environmental Assessment Environment & Climate Transportation
Ruskin Construction wants to install two steel piles at their barge facility in Delta, BC. A three-pile dolphin (a mooring structure) fell over and needs replacing. They'd also add a new pile to better support barges docking at the site.

Why This Matters

This is a routine industrial maintenance project at a private barge facility. Unless you live very close to 8031 River Road in Delta or fish in the Fraser River near this site, it won't affect your daily life.

What Could Change

If approved, two steel piles would be driven into the riverbed using a vibratory hammer. Work would happen during the fisheries least-risk window (June 16 to February 28) to minimize impact on fish.

Key Issues

  • Should the pile installation be approved given potential impacts to fish habitat?
  • Are the proposed work timing and methods adequate to protect fisheries?
