Help Shape Alberta's $508 Million Agricultural Investment (2023-2028)
Official title: Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (2023-2028) Engagement
Why This Matters
Food prices affect everyone's grocery bill. This funding shapes what Alberta farmers can grow, how they adapt to drought and floods, and whether local food stays affordable. Rural communities depend on these programs for jobs and economic stability.
What Could Change
Program changes could roll out in 2024 based on feedback received. Funding priorities may shift toward climate resilience, irrigation infrastructure, or research and innovation. New support programs for farmers facing environmental challenges could emerge.
Key Issues
- How should Alberta address climate change impacts on farming?
- What investments are needed for on-farm water and irrigation?
- How can the sector improve competitiveness and growth?
- What gaps exist in current agricultural support programs?
How to Participate

- Learn about the Sustainable CAP framework to understand current programs and priorities.
What Happened
Three phases of engagement have been completed. Phase 1 ran from June 11 to July 2, 2021, with online surveys and virtual sessions. Phase 2 occurred in late spring 2022 through surveys, virtual roundtables, and an email campaign. Phase 3 collected feedback from November 23 to December 10, 2023, through four online surveys. Input from all phases is being reviewed by Sustainable CAP program areas to inform changes for implementation in 2024.
