Help Design Albro Lake Park's Shoreline Naturalization
Official title: Albro Lake Park Community Engagement
Halifax wants your input on improving Albro Lake Park's shoreline. The beach often has bacteria levels too high for swimming, and there's not enough shade or biodiversity. The municipality plans to plant native species along the shore in 2026 to filter stormwater, boost wildlife habitat, and manage the goose problem.
Why This Matters
Use this beach? Swimming advisories have been frequent due to bacteria levels. This project could make the water cleaner and the park more enjoyable. Live nearby? You'll see changes to the shoreline—more plants, hopefully fewer geese. Want to get involved? Volunteers can help with the planting in 2026.
What Could Change
Native plants, grasses, and shrubs will be installed along the shoreline in 2026. The design will try to accommodate how people currently use the park while adding features for nature walking and bird watching. Stormwater filtration should improve water quality over time.
Key Issues
- How do residents currently use Albro Lake Park?
- What improvements would residents like to see at the park?
- How can naturalization design accommodate existing park uses?
How to Participate
- Attend the nature walk and information session at Albro Lake Park on Wednesday, October 29 from 5 p.m. until dark to learn about the project in person.
- Complete the online survey between November 3 and December 5 to share your feedback on current park uses and desired improvements.
