Help Shape the Future of Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park

Official title: Glenbow Ranch Management Plan engagement

Closed Community Planning Environment & Climate Housing & Communities
Alberta gathered feedback on how to manage Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park, a 1,300-hectare stretch along the Bow River between Calgary and Cochrane. The park sees nearly 100,000 visitors a year, and the government wants to balance growing demand with protecting the environment. Input from the public, Indigenous communities, and local municipalities will shape the park's management plan.

Why This Matters

Love hiking or biking near Calgary? This park is one of the region's gems. With visitor numbers climbing, trails could get crowded or damaged. Your input helps decide whether to add new trails, limit access, or improve facilities.

What Could Change

A new management plan will set priorities for trail improvements, visitor services, and environmental protection. It could mean new amenities, trail expansions, or restrictions on certain activities to protect sensitive areas.

Key Issues

  • How should the park balance increasing visitor demand with environmental protection?
  • What improvements should be prioritized for trails and amenities?
  • How should cultural resources and ecosystems be safeguarded?

How to Participate

  1. Review the draft terms of reference for the management plan and the background report on the park.
  2. The online survey and interactive map were open from August 5 to September 16, 2025. Contact the project team at kananaskis.projects@gov.ab.ca for questions.

What Happened

Feedback was gathered through an online survey, an interactive park map, and in-person trailhead conversations between August 5 and September 16, 2025. The input will help develop the Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park Management Plan, which will guide park management, prioritize improvements, and set approaches for managing park use.
