Help Design Vancouver's Portside Greenway - Wall Street Segment

Official title: Portside Greenway

Closed Community Planning Housing & Communities Transportation
Vancouver is upgrading a 7 km walking and cycling route along the city's northern edge, from Gastown to the eastern boundary. The current phase focuses on Wall Street, where the city wants feedback on traffic calming and design details. Phase 3 engagement on Wall Street has just closed, but future phases for other segments are coming.

Why This Matters

Walk, bike, or roll through East Vancouver? This greenway could make your commute safer and more pleasant. Live on or near Wall Street? The design will affect traffic patterns, parking, and street trees in your neighbourhood. Construction starts in 2027, so this is your chance to shape what gets built.

What Could Change

Wall Street could become a car-light shared street with wider sidewalks and new trees, or get a protected two-way bike lane. Traffic calming measures will reduce vehicle speeds and volumes. Construction on Wall Street West starts in 2027, with Central and East sections following in 2028.

Key Issues

  • Should Wall Street become a car-light shared street or have a protected bike lane?
  • What traffic calming measures should be added to the neighbourhood?
  • How should the design balance parking, sidewalk width, and green infrastructure?

How to Participate

  1. Review the Wall Street Proposed Design Information Boards to understand the design concepts.
  2. Sign up for the mailing list to stay updated on future engagement phases for other segments of the greenway.
  3. Email portsidegreenway@vancouver.ca with questions or comments.

What Happened

Phase 3 engagement on the Wall Street segment has concluded. The city is currently reviewing community feedback and preparing an engagement summary to be shared in the coming months. Over 1,300 people participated in Phase 1 (2023), and Phase 2 results showed community preference for the 'car-light' street option.
