Should Manitoba's Accessible Employment Rules Be Strengthened?

Official title: Accessible Employment Standard Regulation Review

Closed Regulations & Permits Economy & Jobs Justice & Rights
Manitoba is reviewing its rules requiring employers to make workplaces accessible for people with disabilities. The Accessibility Advisory Council wants to know what's working and what needs to change. This five-year review could lead to stronger requirements for hiring, accommodations, and retention practices.

Why This Matters

Have a disability and struggled to find work? Know someone who has? This review could change how Manitoba employers must accommodate job seekers and employees with disabilities. Better rules mean more people can participate fully in the workforce.

What Could Change

The Accessible Employment Standard Regulation could be updated with stronger requirements for barrier-free recruitment, hiring, and workplace accommodations. All Manitoba organizations with employees must follow these rules. Changes could affect job postings, interview processes, and how employers handle accommodation requests.

Key Issues

  • What's working well in the current accessible employment rules?
  • What barriers still exist for people with disabilities in Manitoba workplaces?
  • How can recruitment and hiring practices be made more accessible?
  • What improvements are needed for workplace accommodations and retention?
