Sewage System Upgrade for Springwood Cottage Resort - Central Frontenac
Official title: 2796017 Ontario Inc. - Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage)
A cottage resort near Arden, Ontario wants to upgrade its sewage treatment system. The resort currently has nine separate systems, some dating back to 2014 that were never built as approved. The new plan would consolidate everything into one modern treatment system handling about 25,000 litres of wastewater daily from 14 cottages.
Why This Matters
Live near Blue Heron Ridge or use the lake in the area? Sewage systems affect local water quality. This upgrade could improve how wastewater is treated before it goes into the ground. Cottage country neighbours may want to weigh in.
What Could Change
If approved, the resort would decommission three old sewage systems and all greywater systems. A new consolidated treatment system would handle wastewater from all cottages, using anaerobic digestion and biofilter technology before dispersing treated effluent underground.
Key Issues
- Is the proposed sewage treatment system adequate for the resort's wastewater volume?
- Will the subsurface disposal protect local groundwater and nearby water bodies?
- Should the existing systems that were never built as approved be addressed?
