Help Shape the Canmore Area Trails Master Plan
Official title: Canmore Area Trails Master Plan engagement
Alberta is developing a 10-year plan for recreational trails on Crown land in the Bow Valley near Canmore. The draft plan aims to balance growing trail demand with wildlife protection. You can review the proposed trail network and share your feedback through an online survey by January 21, 2026.
Why This Matters
Hike, bike, or ski near Canmore? This plan will shape which trails exist for the next decade. It affects where you can go and how crowded trails might get. Wildlife lovers should care too—the plan tries to protect habitat while meeting growing demand.
What Could Change
The plan will guide trail development and management on Crown land for 10 years. New trails could be built, existing ones improved, and some areas may be restricted to protect wildlife. The Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park trails plan will also be updated.
Key Issues
- What should the future trail network look like in the Canmore area?
- How should trails be managed to balance recreation with wildlife protection?
- What capital improvements are needed for trail infrastructure?
