School Bypass Road for Buffalo River Dene Nation
Official title: Buffalo River Dene Nation School Bypass Road Relocation
Buffalo River Dene Nation wants to build a new road to keep heavy delivery trucks away from their school. Right now, fuel and grocery trucks have to drive past the school, daycare, and playground on the only road into the community. The new bypass would route trucks south of the school instead.
Why This Matters
This is a child safety project in a First Nations community. Kids currently walk to school on the same road used by large fuel and grocery trucks. If you live in Buffalo River Dene Nation or have family there, this affects daily life.
What Could Change
A new gravel road would be built south of the school, connecting before Dillon Drive to Chief Felix Sylvester Street. New street lighting would be installed along the route. Heavy trucks would be required to use this bypass instead of driving past the school.
Key Issues
- Should the bypass road be approved to improve child safety near the school?
- What are the environmental impacts of building on undeveloped land south of the community?
