Culvert Replacement at CFB Halifax Firing Range Access Road

Official title: Culvert Replacement - Canadian Forces Base Halifax

Closed Environmental Assessment Environment & Climate
The Department of National Defence wants to replace a deteriorated steel culvert under an access road at CFB Halifax. The road has partially collapsed. The new culvert would be corrugated plastic with a concrete headwall at the Sackville River bank.

Why This Matters

This is routine military base infrastructure maintenance. If you live near the Sackville River in Halifax, construction could temporarily affect the waterway during summer 2025. Most Canadians won't be directly affected.

What Could Change

If approved, construction would happen between June 1 and September 30, 2025. Sediment control measures would be installed to protect the Sackville River during excavation and culvert replacement.

Key Issues

  • Will sediment and erosion controls adequately protect the Sackville River?
  • Is the summer low-flow period appropriate timing for this work?
