Official title: Grassy Narrows First Nation Water and Wastewater System Upgrades

Closed Environmental Assessment Health & Safety Indigenous & Northern
Grassy Narrows First Nation is upgrading its water and wastewater infrastructure. The project includes a new water treatment plant, water tower, and distribution pipes, plus a new wastewater treatment facility. Two communal septic systems will replace individual ones in residential areas.

Why This Matters

This project addresses critical infrastructure needs in an Indigenous community that has faced water quality challenges. Clean drinking water and proper wastewater treatment are basic necessities that many Canadians take for granted. For Grassy Narrows residents, these upgrades mean safer water and better fire protection.

What Could Change

The community will get a completely new water treatment system, including a new plant, water tower, and intake line. A new wastewater treatment plant will be built, and individual septic systems in two residential areas will be replaced with communal systems. Old infrastructure will be decommissioned once new systems are operational.

Key Issues

  • Environmental impacts of constructing new water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Decommissioning of existing aging infrastructure
