Navigation Equipment Upgrade Near Goose Bay Airport
Official title: Goose Bay Very High Frequency Omni-directional Range (VOR) Replacement
NAV CANADA wants to replace an aging aircraft navigation beacon near Goose Bay Airport with a newer model. The current system helps pilots navigate in the area. The new equipment will use battery backup instead of diesel generators, reducing environmental impact.
Why This Matters
Live near Goose Bay Airport? There'll be construction activity on Corte Real Road. The project removes a diesel fuel tank, which is good news for the local environment. If you use ATV trails in the area, some may be temporarily affected.
What Could Change
The old navigation beacon will be dismantled and a new one built 45 metres away. A 1,135-litre diesel tank will be removed and replaced with battery backup. Minor excavation work will occur on the 38-hectare site.
Key Issues
- Are there environmental concerns with the construction and excavation activities?
- Will the project affect local land use, including ATV trails?
