New Wharf Construction at Barre-de-Cocagne Fishing Harbour
Official title: Construction of a Marginal Wharf at the Barre-de-Cocagne (Cormierville) Small Craft Harbour, New Brunswick
Why This Matters
If you're a fisher working out of this harbour, this project means more berthing space and safer conditions. The current access road erodes during storms, making the harbour less reliable. For the local fishing community, losing this harbour isn't an option.
What Could Change
A new 42-metre wharf would increase berthing capacity at the harbour. The breakwater would be raised to 5.5 metres for better storm protection. About 480 cubic metres of dredging would deepen the basin for safer navigation. Construction would run from September 2025 to March 2027.
Key Issues
- What are the environmental effects of dredging 480 cubic metres from the harbour basin?
- How will construction activities affect marine habitat and fish populations?
- What measures will mitigate impacts during the 18-month construction period?
